Acting Classes for Summer Semester at Take 5 Studios Begin-June 25th

Well, it’s finally Summer here in Western New York! The snow is gone, everything is in bloom, the Bills don’t have a game for another 101 days. It’s time to get out there and do something you’ve always wanted–like acting!

Why Take an Acting Class?

Plenty of reasons! Maybe you’re trying to build confidence, or you’re trying to be better at business presentations, or you’re like a young me and you absolutely love the craft! Here at Take 5 Studios we believe in our motto that “Acting is For Everyone!”

We’re offering three classes this semester, so there’s a perfect acting class for any kind of student:

Tom Loughlin–Master Teacher

Our very own Tom Loughlin, fresh off of his Artie Award Nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in Irish Classical Theater’s 2024 production of Arthur Miller’s The Price, will be teaching Basics of Performing Level 1 and 2. Why care about Tom? Tom spent 29 years teaching acting at SUNY Fredonia where he is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus, he was honored with a Career Achievement Awards by the Artie Awards Committee in 2022, he is a member of the Actor’s Equity Association, and his beard is just fantastic!

Tom will assist teaching Basics of Performing Level 1, and will be our master teacher for Basics of Performing Level 2. Come learn the tricks of the trade from the old man himself!

Tom Loughlin is an Artie Award Nominee

Big congratulations to our very own Tom Loughlin! Tom has been nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Play from the 2024 Artie Awards Committee for his performance as Gregory Solomon in the Irish Classical Theatre Company production of The Price by Arthur Miller. We in the business call this a “solidly above average job”.

This makes it Tom’s 4th Artie Nomination in 35 years of acting in Buffalo, including a win in 2014 for his performance as Polonius in Shakespeare in Delaware Park’s production of Hamlet. Tom was also honored in 2022 with a Career Achievement Award by the Artie Awards Committee for his body of work as an actor as well as a lifelong theatre educator.

It’s nice to have the hardware, but..

But even Tom will tell you; in acting it’s about the process, not always the result. We act because we love it! The journey from page to stage is what keeps us coming back to the theater.

BLOOD WILL HAVE BLOOD

Looking for something spooky to do to kick off your Halloween celebrations? Join us at Take 5 Studios in Village Square right here in Rochester, NY for a dramatic presentation of Shakespeare’s MacBeth.

This 90 minute production will fully immerse you in the mind of the mad king, by filling our black-box style studio with lights, live underscoring, and all the bloody instruction Shakespeare can give.

The show will run October 26th, 27th, and 28th at 8pm at our studio in Village Gate Square Suite #D310

with Cap Gun Collective’s Matt Miller

September 30th, 2023 @ 2pm at Take 5 Studios, Rochester, NY

Looking for an acting class? Want to experience what it’s like to audition for a movie? Chicago’s Matt Miller will virtually join Take 5 Studios for a one-day masterclass that will give students a taste of what professional actors go through when auditioning for the silver screen. Students will use sides from The Amityville Horror, which will be recorded and reviewed in class. Matt will be connected to a live feed, which means students will truly have a feel for how their acting plays through the lens of the camera.

Matt brings his years of experience as a director and casting agent to Rochester for this one day workshop. This class is perfect for actors who have little to no experience working on-camera and want to get started.

The class will cover:

-The basic components and best practices for a successful film audition

-a mock audition for a day player role in the Ryan Reynolds’ led horror film The Amityville Horror.

-In-class review of auditions and feedback from casting director, Matt Miller.

-Q&A about acting, the film industry, and the Cleveland Guardians chances in a weak central division race. (Yankee fans still encouraged to attend)

Who’s Matt Miller?:

Matt Miller is a Chicago based director and teacher. Miller started his career as a casting director and in addition to casting hundreds of commercials over the years, his notable film credits include The Amityville Horror, Stranger Than Fiction, Public Enemies and The Break-Up.
